These Former Stars Quit Hollywood for Regular Day Jobs

While some celebrities enjoy fame and fortune, others prefer to take the cash and then return to their normal lives, or pursue a different dream. Whether this departure from the limelight is temporary or for good, these former A-listers are now working day jobs that more closely resemble our own.

Being a famous actor or a famous athlete might seem glamorous from the perspective of us outsiders, but there’s no denying that there is a good deal of uncertainty in the industry (especially if you aren’t a household name like Brad Pitt or Meryl Streep). At least, with a proper nine-to-five, be it at McDonald’s or something more lucrative, there is a surefire paycheck coming your way bi-weekly.

While the lifestyle switch might be a touch less luxurious, with far fewer perks, a big benefit of working a normal job is saying farewell to the high-stress, time-consuming pressure of jobs in the public eye in favor of more privacy. From former sports stars to singers and everything in between, these guys have switched career paths and don’t regret a single thing.

In the interview, he elaborated, saying that he started acting on Home Improvement at just seven years old. Nine years later, when the show ended, he said he felt he never had the chance to choose “what [he] wanted to do with [his] life.” He regretted his anger at his parents, saying he realized they were just “trying to protect” him.

People rallied to Owens’ defense, noting that show business was fickle and Owens shouldn’t be job-shamed for working at the Whole Foods competitor. Owens was able to book roles from that publicity, including one on a ten-episode Tyler Perry project. Currently, in addition to minor acting roles, he is the artistic director of the Brooklyn Shakespeare Company, which he also founded.

After the “job shaming” fiasco, Owens was able to book roles on NCIS: New Orleans, Fatale, and Hide and Seek. He announced in 2020 that he was going to take his career in a new direction.
