List of Regencies and Cities in the Riau Archipelago Province - Riau Archipelago Province is one of the archipelagic provinces in Indonesia which is formed from around 2,408 large and small islands, the main islands which are under the administrative area of the Riau Islands province such as Bintan Island, Batam Island, Pulau Kundur, Karimun Island and Bunguran Island. The province, which is often abbreviated as KEPRI Province, was established based on the Legal Basis of Law no. 25 of 2002. September 24, 2002 is designated as the Anniversary of the Riau Islands Province. Before the Law no. 25 of 2002, the Riau Islands Province is part of the Riau Province .
Geographically, Riau Islands Province is located at 07°19' – 0°40' South Latitude and 103°3' – 110°00' East Longitude. In the north, the Riau Islands Province is bordered by Vietnam and Cambodia, while in the west it is bordered by Singapore and Malaysia and Riau Province. Riau Islands Province is bordered by the Province of Bangka Belitung and Jambi Province in the south, while in the east it borders the State of Malaysia and the Province of West Kalimantan.
The area of the Riau Islands Province is 8,201.72 km2 with a population of 1,810,086 people. The area consists of 95% ocean and 5% land. The capital of the Riau Archipelago Province is Tanjung Pinang City and its first governor, Ismeth Abdullah.
