Some people might confuse and ask if Is 'are' is a preposition.
First, before we answer this, we need to know what is Prepositions.
Prepositions are words that show the relationship of two objects or items in a sentence. Some words are designated as prepositions, while other words can be used differently, like as nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, or interjections.
The word 'are' is not a preposition. The word 'are' in the present, plural form of the verb 'be' for first-person words, and the present, singular form of the word 'be' for second-person words. 'Are' always functions as either an auxiliary (helping) verb or a linking verb.
An auxiliary verb is one that is paired with other parts of the verb phrase (a combination of verbs and words used to complete the predicate of the sentence). It helps out the other verbs to make them complete.
In this example, the word 'are' agrees with the plural subject, they. It is used as an auxiliary verb. It is helping out the verb 'going.'
A linking verb is a verb that links the subject of a sentence to a description or characteristic of that subject.
In this sentence, the word 'are' is used to link the subject 'you' to the description of the subject (busy).
