Time Sharing in Indonesia – The Republic of Indonesia is one of the largest countries in the world located in Southeast Asia. The total area of the Republic of Indonesia, which reaches 1.9 million km2 , stretches from 95⁰ East Longitude to 141⁰ East Longitude, so it is necessary to divide time into 3 Time Zones.
Based on Presidential Decree (Kepres) No. 41 of 1987, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is divided into 3 (three) time zones, namely West Indonesian Time (WIB), Central Indonesian Time (WITA) and East Indonesia Time (WIT).
The following is a list of regions or provinces that are in the time zone in question.
West Indonesia Time or abbreviated as WIB extends along the 105 East Longitude which includes the island of Java, the island of Madura, the island of Sumatra, the western and central parts of the island of Kalimantan. West Indonesia Time (WIB) is the same as the international time division of UTC +7 or GMT +7.
The provinces included in the West Indonesia Time Zone (WIB) are as follows:
Central Indonesia Time or abbreviated as WITA stretches along the 120⁰ East Longitude which includes Sulawesi Island, Bali Island, North, East and South Kalimantan Islands as well as East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) areas. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) is the same as the International time division of UTC +8 or GMT +8.
The provinces included in the Central Indonesia Time Zone (WITA) include:
Eastern Indonesia Time or abbreviated as WIT extends along the 135⁰ East Longitude which includes the islands of Papua and the Maluku Islands. East Indonesia Time is the same as the International time division of UTC +9 or GMT +9.
The provinces within the Eastern Indonesia Time Zone are as follows:

Basically UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the same as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), the difference is the fraction of a second. GMT is more commonly used by civil purposes while UTC is more scientific.
Based on the time zone division, it can be taken as an example that if West Indonesia Time (WIB) is at 08.00 am, then Central Indonesia Time (WITA) is 09.00 am or 1 hour earlier. Meanwhile, East Indonesia Time is 10.00 am or 2 hours ahead of West Indonesia Time (WIB).
