Profile of the State of Israel - Israel is a country located in the western part of the Asian continent, which is an area that is often referred to as the Middle East region. The country which is astronomically located between 29°-34°N and 34°-36°E is bordered by Lebanon in the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan in the east, Egypt in the southwest and two areas of the Palestinian National Authority, namely the Gaza Strip. Gaza ( Gaza Strip ) in the west and the West Bank ( West Bank ) in the east. To the west of Israel is the Mediterranean Sea (Mediterranean Sea).
The State of Israel was declared an independent State in 1948 after Britain withdrew from its mandate over Palestine in 1947. The United Nations at that time (29 November 1947) proposed dividing the territory into two states, one Arab state and one Jewish state. While the city of Jerusalem is designated as an international city ( corpus separatum ) which is administered directly by the United Nations to avoid a status conflict for this city.
In 1967-1973, Israel fought against its neighbors until in 1979 signed agreements with Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. Israel also signed a number of interim agreements in the 1990s for the establishment of a Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip. and the West Bank it occupied in 1967.
The area of Israel is 20,770 km2 with a population of 8,424,904 (July 2018). The majority of the population are ethnic Jews and Arabs who are Jewish and Muslim respectively. Israel's population growth is 1.49% (2018). The official language of Israel is Hebrew ( Hebrew ).
Israel's system of government is a Parliamentary Democracy or it can also be called a Parliamentary Republic. The Head of State of Israel is the President who is elected by the Israeli Parliament ( Knesset ) for a term of 7 years and is limited to 1 term only. While the head of government is the Prime Minister who is usually the head of the largest party in Israel. Members of Parliament, totaling 120 seats, are elected in the General Election for a term of 4 years.
In de jure, Israel claims Jerusalem as its capital. But most of the countries in the world and also the United Nations do not recognize it. Most countries in the world and the United Nations recognize the city of Tel-Aviv as the capital of Israel. Tel-Aviv is the second largest city in Israel as well as the Technology city and Financial center in the State of Israel.
In the economic field, Israel is a country that adheres to a free market economy with advanced and sophisticated technology. The discovery of Natural Gas off the Mediterranean coast, especially in the Tamar and Leviathan gas fields, has the potential to place Israel at the center of the regional natural gas market. Israel is a developed country that has a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US$317.1 billion with a per Capita Income of US$36,400,- in 2017. Israel's economic growth in 2017 was 3.3%.
Industries that are the backbone of Israel's economy are high-tech industries such as aviation, communication equipment, design and manufacturing with the help of technology/computers, medical electronics and fiber optics. Israel also has other important industries such as wood and paper products, potassium and phosphate, food and beverages, tobacco, caustic soda, cement, pharmaceuticals, construction, metal products, chemical products, diamonds, textiles and footwear.
In foreign relations, Israel was accepted as a member of the United Nations in 1949. Israel is also a member state of international institutions under the United Nations and the OECD. It should be noted that until now, the Republic of Indonesia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.
