Costa Rica is a country located in southeastern Central America, this region is often classified as a North American continent, a sub-region of Central America. The country which is astronomically located between 8°-12°N and 82°-86°W is bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south-southeast. Costa Rica's official language is Spanish.
The government system adopted by Costa Rica is a presidential republic government system in which the head of state and head of government is the president. The President and Vice President of Costa Rica are directly elected by the people for a term of 4 years. The Costa Rican Parliament consists of 57 seats with a term of 4 years as well.
In the economic field, Costa Rica has enjoyed stable and strong economic growth since 2010. In 2017, economic growth reached 3.8%. Agricultural commodities that are the backbone of Costa Rica's economy include bananas, coffee, pineapples, sugar, corn, rice and beef. Apart from agricultural commodities, other important industries for Costa Rica's economy include medical equipment, food processing, textiles and clothing, construction materials, fertilizers and plastic products. Costa Rica's Gross Domestic Product was US$85.2 billion while its per capita income was US$17,200,- in 2017.
In foreign relations, Costa Rica is a member country of the United Nations as well as international institutions under the United Nations such as WHO, UNESCO, WTO, FAO, IAEA, IMF, ILO, IMO, UPU, UNIDO, UNWTO, WIPO, ICAO, ITU and IFAD.
